Dallas is the most populated city in the state of Texas. Dallas ranks ninth in the U.S for total population and third in the state of Texas. Dallas was the center for oil during the 19th and 20th centuries and played a very important role in the development of the United States economy since oil was such a common and popular trade.In the beginning of the city Dallas relied heavily on farming. It had a prime location on Native American trading routes to allow the city to sustain itself. Once the railroad was built in 1873 the city boomed and expanded into different industries including cotton and oil. Dallas was also a hub during World War II and after the war many companies for communications, engineering, and production remained in the city such as Collins Radio Corporation. This portion of the city still keep the city alive today.
