Extruded PTFE Tubing – AWG (American Wire Gauge)

Polytetrafluoroethylene or Teflon PTFE tubing is the first and most common of the fluoropolymer products. Spaghetti tubing, or small-diameter PTFE tubing manufactured to AWG (American Wire Gauge) sizes, has the widest range of applications thanks to its high service temperature, superior chemical resistance, and insulating properties. With a clean smoothbore interior PTFE Tubing AWG or extruded PTFE tubing, you get a restriction-free flow. Tubing manufactured from PTFE resins has a low permeability to gases and liquids. PTFE is almost completely inert to chemical attack, but under special conditions, it can be affected by such substances as alkali metals and halogens. PTFE is a solid fluorocarbon and has a very high molecular weight that consists solely of carbon and fluorine. PTFE Tubing is hydrophobic which means water nor any water containing substances can wet the surface of PTFE.

Teflon PTFE Tubing AWG is heat-resistant to 500°F and is ETO (ethylene oxide) and autoclave sterilizable for repeat usage. Fluoropolymer tubing is considered a highly flexible tube, but the properties of PTFE tubing allow for it to have the best flex life out of all fluoropolymers.

Available in a Variety of Colors and Thickness

Teflon PTFE tubing (Polytetrafluoroethylene) is available in various colors and thicknesses, providing flexible options for top-tier spaghetti tube solutions. PTFE tubing is known for its superior chemical resistance, high service temperature, and additional insulating properties. When dealing with convoluted PTFE tubing, PTFE tubing is unmatched (with an upper service temperature of 500° F). You can rely on restriction-free flow with PTFE tubing, as PTFE tubing resins have a low permeability to both liquids and gasses. Currently, Teflon PTFE tubing is available in the following 10 colors:

  • Black
  • Brown
  • Red
  • Orange
  • Yellow
  • Green
  • Blue
  • Violet
  • Gray
  • White

Pantone color-matching is also available, upon request. Additionally, PTFE  tubing is produced in three sizes: standard, thin wall, and light wall (or lightweight wall). PTFE tubing is also biocompatible, crack/stress-resistant, FDA compliant, and USP Class VI.

What are the Best Uses for Extruded PTFE Tubing?

Not only does PTFE tubing provide the ultimate heat-resistance properties, but it is also chemically inert, VW-1-rated, and has consistent dielectric properties (throughout all frequencies). Some of the best uses for extruded PTFE tubing and PTFE spiral wrap tubing include:

  • Fluid transfer in harsh chemical environments: PTFE tubing is ideal for harsh chemical environments, as the tubing is designed to transfer sensitive substances and materials without the risk of contamination or leaching.
  • High-temperature applications: With its high heat resistance (up to 500 degrees Fahrenheit), Teflon PTFE tubing is ideal for high-temperature applications and machines.
  • Electrical insulation: PTFE tubing is known as an optimal insulator for everything from circuit boards and standard cables to connector assemblies.
  • Mechanical applications requiring low friction: If your mechanical application requires low friction, PTFE tubing can be customized to suit your particular specification needs.
  • Medical devices: Within the healthcare industry, PTFE tubing can be utilized for hearing aids, drainage tubes, ventilators, and catheters. Teflon PTFE tubing is preferred in the medical and healthcare industries as it is manufactured with the use of non-toxic elements, ensuring it remains antibacterial in nature.
  • Food and beverage processing: Because of its non-toxic properties, PTFE tubing is also optimal for food and beverage processing solutions.
  • Automotive and aerospace: PTFE tubing is preferred for aircraft and automobile industries due to its nonflammable and high-heat-resistant properties.
  • Linings and coatings: Teflon tubing is resistant to chemicals and standard wear and tear along with thermal cycling, making it a suitable option for linings and coatings in most industries today.
  • 3D printing filament transfer: PTFE tubing is one of the most preferred solutions for 3D printing filament transfer needs.

Consider extruded Teflon PTFE for your next project for a reliable tubing upgrade. Tef-Cap is the industry leader in fluid handling and chemical resistance solutions with the use of PTFE tubing.
